Rick from Rick and Morty- Paper Mache Mask

First layer of paste and newspaper going on the beach ball.

This is the shape I made out of cardboard to create Rick's nose.

This is after the third and final base layer of paste and newspaper.

Figuring out what to use for an eye mold. If I would have done anything differently it would have been shaping the eyes manually instead of finding and object use as a mold.

Adding the shape or contour around the eyes and mouth.....

Eyes are taped on and ready to be officially added.

Base layer of blue paint just so I can visualize what needed to be added....

Added ears and cut out the eye shape.

Making the mouth a nice clean edge and trying to fix some of the bulgy eye action.

Formed the hair out of an old frozen pizza box.

Attached the hair with more paper mache and the final product is starting to come through.

Added the teeth.

Old knee high sock was used to create the black mesh so I could see.

Final coat of flesh tone after the eye lids were added.

Then it was just the final details like the final coat of blue on the hair, pupils, eyebrow, and the green spit up.

I know I was a slacker with the rest of the outfit but everyone who know Rick and Morty knew who I was instantly.

Mouse Wall Hanging - Paper Patter Pieced

Finished product:

Made from an unwanted fitted sheet (actually just the scraps remainging from my circle skirt/dress) + 2 x 2" scrap of white canvas for eyes and nose + unwanted, stained, dress pants. + 10% of a skein of grey embroidery floss + 25% of a skein of black embroidery floss.

Process shot:

I know this one will be cherished. Momma collects mice and loves it when her daughter makes things with her in mind.

Bassnectar Dreamcatcher

An awesome friend of mine won the "golden ticket" to the "festival" at Dicks last month and got to meet Lorin in person before the show recently. Instead of selling the ticket he purchased when he received the golden ticket, he gave it to me. This was one of the items I created to thank him and his pretty lady for providing me with the lovely experience. I hope they enjoy this, even if it becomes an ornate cat toy....

There are many tutorials you can follow on Pinterest; it was much easier than I thought it was going to be. You should really try making one for yourself or someone you think is doing awesome things.....

Creating my first dreamcatcher has been a success. I will always remember this because I found the stick I used to make the hoop during my first Colorado camping trip. Sitting by the fire, keeping warm in the hammock, and frolicking in the woods, I spent some time with a pint sized dog that would be put down 3 days after this adventure.

It's funny how a few short moments with certain souls can impact your life more than others who you've spent hours and hours with.... That little Chihuahua, Tink, took a chunk of my heart with her and I'm grateful to have connected before she passed.

Backpack - Pellon Free Backpack Pattern

I'm so proud!

This backpack was made using this FREE PATTERN from Pellon with some alterations:

First thing I noticed that didn't sit well with me was the depth of the bag. I wanted it to be a little smaller.

Making a flap for the zipper made the top more narrow
I took in the sides of the bottom piece to match up with the short side of the top zippered section.

Adding another pocket to the side, I felt, added a nice detail.
I also added an inside more secure pocket to the lining.
Not having the "fusible fleece" on hand I just used interfacing for all pieces and grabbed a piece of fleece to sandwich between the layers for the straps.

I was pretty worried that the print would be too large to look good on a backpack but went for it anyway and I'm glad I did.

This is a Nate Berkus fabric from Joann's. Typically I would try to re-use fabric; however, I didn't have anything thick enough for this project.

Clutch pattern by Sue Kim- DONE

After flipping through, this clutch is the only design that struck my fancy from the Bags; the modern classics book by Sue Kim. I think it turned out alright and I'll probably end up making a second or third down the line.

The instructions are easy to follow for a beginner or seasoned seamstress.

The first attempt was done without using the markings on the pattern and you can see how it may not fit properly.... The second one should fit perfectly!

The Easy Long & Lightweight Cardigan!

I wear a lot of cardigans. I decided it was time to start making a few myself. McCall's pattern 6996 was super easy to make and for one of my first times sewing a knit garment, I think it turned out excellent.

I did an awful job sewing the back so I just braided a few scraps and sewed it on. After realizing that it didn't cover the biggest flaw on the back, I was forced to seam rip and re-stitch.
